Deva Movie Review: Shahid Kapoor's Thrilling Journey Falls Short in Climax
While Shahid Kapoor continues his fame, "Deva," in particular, tends to draw mixed reactions. It feels like a long marathon where the excitement of winning at the finish line does not match expectations. The entire trip feels fulfilled, yet the last punch fizzles away, leaving a hollow feeling.
The film is about Deva Amare, a police officer who has uneasy relations with his conscience. With the burden of a childhood trauma stemming from his father, he rises in the police ranks by dubious means. He is depicted as a raw beastly anti-hero who is not sure whether to call anything good or bad. He strikes when provoked, and the police have no option but to lean on him because he is willing to use brute force to get what it needs done.
A Twist in the Tale
The story takes a sharp twist when Deva's policeman friend is transferred to Mumbai. The friend is being honored for the successful operation in which he took down a gangster, when tragedy struck; Deva's friend was shot and killed. For Deva, friendship ranks higher than duty and thus begins his unrelenting pursuit to crack the case, breaking all limits to unearth the truth. But with a memory wipe-out due to an accident, he finds himself in a new body. Gradually regaining his real identity, he began to investigate his case from an outside viewpoint to conclude about the real killer.

The film's climax has an exciting twist that stands out in Hindi cinema, thanks to the director, who is from Kerala. The first half of the movie feels like a traditional story about an angry young man, but the second half turns into a thrilling detective story that changes everything. The investigation keeps the audience hooked, especially with Upendra Lima's fun and wild performance.
Shahid Kapoor's Performance
In the first half, Shahid Kapoor plays a beast giving up all morality and entering the world of the primal. His performance is so convincing that even a simple shooting scene carries a sense of weight. This character walks the line between good and evil, and Shahid’s presence only adds to the charm of the movie. The buildup of his character leads to an action sequence that truly seems cooler than ever-who would want to mess with him.
As the story goes on, it takes a different turn. While viewers hope for an exciting ending, it doesn't quite provide the thrill they were expecting. Instead, it feels a bit disappointing because the earlier action doesn't fully pay off. The film starts off strong and grabs the audience's attention, but the climax doesn't match the excitement of the beginning.
Conclusion
In sum "Deva" is a riveting thriller, efficiently directed by Roshan Andrews keeps the audiences guessing about the real villain. The well-made movie would have been even more enjoyable if a better climax was added to that. Interestingly, it is a remake of the original Malayalam film "Mumbai Police," which came out in 2013. In summary, while the film has its plus points; it could have pushed harder for a more convincing end."
